The Drums came out of nowhere about two years ago with a surf-jam awesome sing-along in the vein of, coincidentally enough, Peter Bjorn and John’s “Young Folks.” That track was aptly titled, ” Let’s Go Surfing” and featured jangly guitars and dreamy vocals complete with whistles and a running bass line. Their new album is entitled Portamento out September 12th in the UK and the 13th in the U.S. via Moshi Moshi/ V2/ Island. Expect more of the same breezy tunes with the addition of some samples and synths sprinkled throughout. 3voor12 is currently streaming the album in its entirety here:
“Book of Revelation” is a great lead off track with slightly nihilistic lyrics about how lead singer Jonathan Pierce doesn’t believe in the afterlife, so he want’s to love his girl “tonight.”
