He’s yo main man, and he stays on the grind! Kevin Maxie aka KMax definitely keeps the funny flows coming. The parody rapper has an old school cadence with new school beats. GroundSounds had the chance to chop it up with the Los Angeles based entertainer ,check out the interview below!

What inspired you to start creating parody raps?

I would always make up lyrics to sounds just to make fun of music then I wrote this song called “Stinky Breath”. That was the birth of parody music for me. All I needed was for one person to tell me it was good.

Are you currently working on any new tracks?

Yes, working on a Kelis song Bossy and Big Shawn Beat the Pussy Up. Im writing to these songs.

Your single “I Shop at Ross” is hilarious do you really shop there?

Yes. They have everything you need at a discount. I really found something fly that was on the floor and bought it. Ha.

Who are some of the most influential musicians and or bands that you listen to?

Busta Rhymes, E-40, Run DMC, UMC’s, X Clan, Ice Cube, Public Enemy, But really just the style of Old School Hip Hop but the flashiness of new school Hip Hop. But I’ve been listening to a lot of 80’s music so I may have to write something to that.

We’re afraid to ask, but what inspired you to write the song “I Gotta Take a Shit”?

I love that track and was trying to write something to that for a long time and it finally hit me after that number 5 supersized. Ha.

Have you ever considered stand up?

I’ve done stand up. Didn’t really like because I wanted to talk the entire night, five minutes was not long enough for me. Five minutes and im just getting warmed up. Ha.

Has working at E! influenced your music or helped your music career?

None of the above. Ha. Working there is just my job and this is what I do outside of that. Don’t get me wrong, I would like to mix the two. Ha.

Can you walk us through your writing process? Do you start with a beat or an idea?

What I do is take what they are saying and make it say something else that is totally different than what they were talking about. It has to be funny and off the wall… Most of the time. Ha. If you play both the songs at the same time they will sound similar.

Will you be releasing an album anytime soon?

Every year I try to put some song together but it never happens so many people have their own thing going on and no time to follow my dream. The person that does will be happy with the outcome.

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

On tour performing.

If you could collaborate with anyone musically who would it be and why?

E-40. I wrote a song that I need him to spit on. Ha. But that’s not my thing… my music is for entertainment only, I will never claim to be something I am not. I can rap but I am not a rapper, I’m an entertainer. I write parody music. I can write original music but that is not what I want to do.

What was the last song that you listened to on your mp3 player?

2 Chainz. Ha. I love this guy because he raps with a free mind. He also has some banging ass beats.

What advice would you give to aspiring parody rappers?

Free your mind and write what feels good. Write with confidence.
