Weekly Grind

By Jake Craney

3/20/13

Welcome to the ‘Weekly Grind’ where GroundSounds Editor-in-Chief Jake Craney recaps the week in music, featuring the latest album releases, tracks, and recommendations. Plus, he keeps you up to date on GroundSounds’ exclusive music news and interviews.

This week has been filled by new music from four bands: Bastille, The 1975, The Braces, and Frightened Rabbit.

Bastille’s Bad Blood delivers a creative, dancey, up-tempo indie pop collection of songs that will undoubtedly be huge once the mainstream latches on. Check out the first track “Pompeii” below.

The 1975 is a heavily-accented English indie band that has released three EP’s recently, filled with songs that are nothing short of amazing. Watch the video for “Chocolate” right here

Frightened Rabbit, another band from across the pond, offer a slightly more up-tempo indie-folk with some different elements. Check out the video “The Woodpile” from Pedestrian Verse.

The Braces are a Southern California punk band that is at once nostalgic and refreshing. Their newest album Two Years showcases the band’s musical maturity and is excellent lyrically. It is a must-have for any punk or pop-punk fan…look for a full review on April 9. Check out the song “Scratches” on Absolutepunk.net.
