Bringing you information on the best local artists from Los Angeles you should know about. This week:

Artist Profile: Martin Storrow ( http://www.martinstorrow.com/)

In this weekly post I always hope to not only share something new that you’ve never heard before, but to stay relevant and provide you with local artists who are making great, pure music from the soul. In this way, we all feel a connection to the music because we live in the same city and have probably gone through similar experiences. This week, let me introduce Martin Storrow to your eardrums. He is probably the perfect example for what I just previously mentioned.  He realizes the beauty and perks of living in paradise, but his music draws from his journeys through other parts of this great state. It’s true that most people think of beaches, mountains, and sunsets when thinking of California. This state is also home to deserts, farmland, and forests. It’s in this mindset he set out to record an album that makes you realize life is full of both beauty and happiness, as well as imagination, sadness, and hope.

Martin’s most recent album California Songs, released in Summer of 2011, explores his struggles and his perspectives on life, love, and thoughts that keep us all up at night. The songs are bluesy, jazzy, and all around great folk-rock tracks. My favorite songs off this record are ‘California Songs’ and ‘Secrets’. The energy is natural and meaningful throughout the whole album. You immediately feel a connection and it’s so easy to relate to his feelings and his lyrics. He’s a great musician that exemplifies steady, rhythmic strumming patterns on the acoustic, soulful sounds from the harmonica, and the occasional piano performance. These days, it’s not only expected to be a mutli-instrumentalist, but it’s assumed that you’re pretty good at all of them, too. With Martin, there’s no doubt he has spent just as much time on his lyrics as he has on practicing and honing his skills on various instruments.

I’ve been lucky enough to meet Martin on several occasions through mutual friends and even got to play some tunes with him for a select few at a house in West Hollywood awhile back. He is not only a great person and fun to jam with, but he gets people and he understands what we all feel and think about it. He is steadily building a following and is always working on new material and playing small shows around California and occasionally on the East coast.

Martin currently has two full albums and one 4-track EP available for streaming on Spotify. If you’re feeling generous, help yourself to purchasing any of these on iTunes. The new YouTube videos on his channel of performances he recently did in NYC are incredible, too. I recommend checking those out, as well as others on his other social media pages. Follow his every move, as you won’t want to miss out when he plays a show next. Things have just begun for Martin and we’re certainly going to see a lot more material and media from him in the near future.
