Michael Bernard Fitzgerald – Yes

Release Date – Aug 27

As soon as the opening verses of Michael Bernard Fitzgerald’s album Yes jump out of the speakers, another three-letter word comes to mind: “Fun.” Opener “Man Overboard” is a catchy and addicting track that lets the listener know Yes will be a fun one to listen to.

The more toned down “Follow” then switches gears and showcases the variety MBF provides in this eclectic melting pot of pop, folk, indie, alt, acoustic and many other elements. This variety is refreshing and a quality that will win over fans of multiple genres. You’ll never get bored listening to Yes. Michael discussed the variety in his music in our interview a few weeks ago.

Lead single “Firecracker” is indicative of the title. It bursts and swells with sharp, distinct instrumentation, hand claps, and a quick-flowing verse structure that embodies the fun vibe of the album. “Firecracker” kicks off my favorite stretch of the album, with “In Your Room Tonight” and “Last Train To Georgia” following. These are three completely different songs with major changes in feel, style, and tempo. The variation doesn’t seem disjointed at all though, with MBF’s vocals and earnest songwriting tying everything together.

Yes doesn’t stop there, finishing with the light and fun “World Of Black And White,” and “Human,” and the heartfelt closer “Love Is An Easy Thing To Miss.”

Bottom line: Yes will be on many ‘end of the year’ top 10 lists, including mine. It’s a great album for any fan of singer/songwriters, pop, indie, alternative…you get the idea. Check out “Firecracker” below and be sure to pick up the album on the 27th if you want to have some fun!
