Singer, songwriter, musician, actress- Kate Nash, is a jack of all trades. Currently, she is touring the globe, her songs are being featured on Broadway, she has an upcoming movie premiere, and she is starting a magazine! We’re not sure when she sleeps, but GroundSounds covered all these topics and more in our exclusive interview, check it out below.

Your world tour has officially started! You will be coming to the states soon, what do you enjoy most about America? Are there any cities that you are looking forward to checking out?

I love touring in America, I always have, the drives are much longer but you get to see so much on the road. I’ve made so many friends over the last few years from all over the world, and when I am touring in America I get to see so many of them. Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco where some family are based, and we are guaranteed to have a good time in Chicago and Washington DC.

What do you enjoy most and least about being on the road?

The best thing about being on the road is seeing so many amazing places, getting to travel to insane parts of the world that you would never consider taking a holiday to, and meeting so many people from such different cultures and backgrounds  however being on the road can be exhausting and I miss my bunny rabbit and home comforts of just staying in making dinner and watching South Park; little things like that make all the difference when you are on the road.

It was recently announced that your songs would be featured in the new Broadway musical ‘Only Gold’. Can you tell us about this opportunity and how it came about?

Andy Blankenbueler approached me a few years ago and told me about the story, when he told me he wanted to use all of my music for it I was so shocked and couldn’t really imagine it. But then I saw the work he was doing and how much it fit. it was so cool to see my music in a totally different context. I went to New York recently to work on filling in the gaps in the story with songs. I’m so excited about this project, it’s all about passion, love, riches, choice and mid life crisis. Figuring out your life. And it’s set in paris in the 20s when the maharaja came over. So it has all this relatable content set in this really fun, luxurious environment.

What do you feel while performing music?

Performing music is ultimately my favorite thing to do

Can you tell us about the creative process and inspiration(s) behind your track “3AM”?

Insomnia is the main inspiration for this song. I was going through a particularly difficult time in my life and the way I deal with stress is by working it off. I wanted to be able to lie in bed and forget about it all but I could never get to sleep so I decided to do something productive with the extra hours I was getting in my day. I haven’t really taken a break for the last two years, working helps me deal with anxiety, stress and insomnia.

What can you tell us about the upcoming British comedy ‘Powder Room’? What was it like on set? Can you tell us a little bit about your character

Last year I filmed Powder Room with Sheridan Smith, Jamie Winstone, Oona Chaplin, Riann Steele and Sarah Hoare with an awesome soundtrack by Fake Club. It was directed by the amazing M.J. Delaney, I’ve done 3 movies now and I love it. I am super excited about Powder Room, it was such a cool experience, the cast were incredibly talented and also so welcoming and lovely. My character is a bit of a snobby bitch really, but I don’t want to spoil too much for you, it’s really funny and so relatable to this generation of women. When I stop touring I definitely want to do more filming.

What are some upcoming trends in fashion that people should embrace/stay away from?

I don’t necessarily stick to any particular trends or looks that are ‘in’ at a certain moment, I always wear what I feel comfortable in, especially on stage as I need to be able to move around with ease. I shop in vintage shops so my clothes range from so many different era’s, and I think people can pull of any look they want as long as they feel comfortable in it. I suppose my only advice would be to just love what you are wearing, clothes and fashion are meant to be fun and represent your personality so you should make sure that really shines through in your clothes.

What’s next after the tour? What will you be working on?

I will be heading back to the UK for the premiere of ‘Powder Room’ on the 27th November, then getting things tied up before Christmas when I am going to take some time off, hang out in my PJ’s with fluffy and eat far too much. I have a few projects I am excited about starting next year, in particular a music based magazine for girls; I definitely want to get over to Australia, Japan and back to South America.
