Made Violent is a three-piece band out of Buffalo, New York. The guys rock hard, and with tracks like “Wasted Days” and “Inside Out”, they quickly caught our attention. Get ahead of the curve now and put them on your music radar. GroundSounds recently caught up with them for an exclusive interview, check it out below.

For those just discovering Made Violent how did you guys get together and form the band?

We formed after playing together in a bunch of older bands. I (Justin, Drums) have played in bands with Rob (guitar) since high school. I met Joe(Bass/Vox) outside of a show that his band opened for ours. We became good friends and I’d always invite him over to my apartment and add to his delinquency and eventually asked him to join our band at the time. Made Violent formed after that and a few changes later, here we are now.

How did you guys decide on the name ‘Made Violent’?

Are we Made Good or Made Violent? Haha Really though we are the furthest thing from violent so I think we all just thought it was funny at the time.

What do you guys do for fun up in Buffalo, NY?

I guess that depends on your definition of “fun” haha. Honestly we spend most of our time in our practice space writing and rehearsing. When we aren’t doing that you can probably find us cooped up in our friends apartment with 40s in hand.

How did you guys come up with the song “Wasted Days”?

We were lucky enough to be able to spend a full week writing and recording out at a lake house in Rushford, NY in November. The lake is man made so it’s all drained up during the fall and wintertime. It was definitely eerie but super inspiring. The song came out about half way through that week and became sort of an anthem about our past and present. That was the first time the three of us all had creative control over everything we were doing during the songwriting process. So it has been amazing to receive the response we have been getting!

Can you tell us about the inspiration and creative process behind the track “Inside Out”?

Inside Out was written about a month or so after the Lakehouse. It’s loosely based around the phrase “the elephant in the room”. It’s a song about having a problem with someone you know and love but can’t just address the obvious issue at hand.

What was it like the day of the shoot as you filmed the video for “Inside Out”?

Bitter cold. NYC rules though so I guess it was worth it? It was cool too because Rob had never been before (properly that is) so we got to show him around. We definitely walked the whole island before a show in Brooklyn later that night.

What are you guys currently listening to?

Ahhh too much. Jerry Lee Lewis, The Kinks, The Sonics, The Strange Boys, anything guitar music really.

Are you guys currently working on an EP or a full-length?

We are literally always writing songs so its only a matter of time before we have some sort of a release. Album or EP I couldn’t tell you at this point.

What’s next, what are you guys currently working on?

Again just writing as much as we possibly can, but also working on our spring dates. We plan to be on the road as much as possible. Look forward to a Buffalo Show February 21st with Bear Hands at The Waiting Room.
