What do you get when four friends with raw talent and a knack for music join forces? My Crazy Girlfriend. MCG  is the next pop act that needs to be on your music radar!

Featuring the fresh emcee Cosmo, powerhouse vocalist Myah Marie and the twin brother hip-hop production duo Laze & Royal, they are indeed a force to be reckoned with.

GroundSounds recently caught up with the group for an exclusive interview, check it out below.
You guys were all friends collaborating on various projects for a good while, before you formed My Crazy Girlfriend, can you tell us a little bit about the aha moment of deciding to come together to form the group?

[Bennett] We’ve all been friends for a long time and about 2 years ago we lost everything at the same time. We had no money with no one but ourselves and our music. We were all working on separate projects which weren’t getting us where we wanted to go. We figured we’d try something new. The aha moment for us was when we did our first gig as a band at The Whisky-A-GoGo on The Sunset Strip and we sold it out. There was a great reaction and a fight broke out during our song “Go F**k Yourself” which was pretty badass.

What was the day of the shoot like when you guys filmed the “Crazy Stupid Love” video?

[Cosmo] The day shooting our first video “Crazy Stupid Love” was an absolute blast! We got to work with our favorite director Hannah Lux Davis and an amazing stylist named Alexis Knox.

You guys are currently on a radio promo tour, what do you enjoy most about being on the road?

[Bennett] What we enjoy most about being on the road is performing acoustic for the listeners and stations. We love performing live. Planting seeds every day and watching our dreams come true slowly is just an unreal feeling.

You guys found success with the playful track “Go F**k Yourself”, can you tell us about the creative inspiration behind this song?

[Myah] Go F**K Yourself” was the first song we ever did as a band. It was originally done with just guitar, drums and bass. We wanted a fun and playful record that had a liberating cuss word in it.

What do you enjoy most about being on stage?

[Myah] What we enjoy most about being on stage is getting to interact face to face with the fans. Performing live is our favorite thing to do.

Sonically, what is it about the blending of pop and hip-hop elements that attract you guys?

[Justyn] We all grew up as fans of so many different genres of music. When we started the band, incorporating different genres and sounds instrumentally was our number one priority to establish a fresh and new sound.

Can you tell us about signing with Capitol Records, what was this day like?

[Justyn] Signing to Capitol was truly a dream come true. We use to live right across the street from the iconic building in Hollywood and dream about being signed there one day. When we heard that our A&R Mike Flynn wanted to meet and sign us it was a no brainer. We were super stoked.

What people and books have inspired you guys?

[Myah] No Doubt has definitely inspired us collectively as a band. Growing up in the 90’s and in California, they played a huge role in our childhood.

Are you guys currently working on a debut EP or LP?  If so, what can you guys reveal about the project? What’s next?

[Bennett] We’re currently finishing up our album which were really excited about. We wrote and produced it ourselves along with David “DQ” Quinones & Richard Vission who were signed to. We’re finishing up writing it now while on the road.
