Curb recording artist Ryan Corn is gearing up for the release of his new EP Wonderful Things. The Missouri based singer/songwriter recently dropped the title track and it doesn’t miss a beat.

GroundSounds recently caught up with Ryan to talk about his childhood, new music and more. Check it out below and discover this amazing up-and-coming artist.

What was it like growing up in Missouri? Can you tell us a little bit about your childhood and getting started with music?

Southeast Missouri was a good place to grow up…it was a small, simple town and life was good. My family was very close and we had a lot of good times together. I got my start in music singing next to my grandma in church on Sundays. That progressed into me singing in a trio with my dad and sister. I learned to play guitar soon after and eventually went solo with my musical endeavors.

Can you tell us about working on and writing your track “Wonderful Things”?

Growing up, people often called my family The Cleavers. My parents are very pleasant and kind and so this kind of thing comes easy for me too. For the longest time I thought that because people saw me this way, that that’s who I really was. “Wonderful Things” came about one day when I took an honest look at myself. I know myself better than anyone and I’ve done plenty of things I’m not proud of. However, there lots of wonderful things that have been done for me and the song is a tribute to that.

What music are you currently listening to?

I like the new Michael Jackson album, Foster the People and recently started listening to Milo Greene.

What was the inspiration for your track “Burst?”

I want my life to carry purpose that’s bigger than just me. When I’m older I wanna look back and know that I’ve invested my days in something more than just the fulfillment of my petty desires. I want my heart to beat with passion and for that to spill over into practical everyday actions

We read that you recently filmed a music video in NYC, what song was the music video for? Can you tell us a little bit about the shoot?

The shoot for this video was really simple…really raw. We just wanted to capture some live, acoustic performances in Bryant Park in NYC. The city has so much life and energy gushing thru its streets all the time. It was cool to feed off of that energy while I played and it was cool to be a part of it too

Can you tell us about bringing your debut EP ‘Wonderful Things’ to fruition?

It’s been a long journey and I feel so blessed to finally have this opportunity to share my music. I was fortunate enough to be able to produce my own first album. Producing has always been a passion of mine. I love putting all the pieces together to shape a song into it’s best form possible. I’ve written and produced and recorded lots of songs over the past year and I’m very pleased with this EP. I can’t wait for everyone else to hear it

When touring, what do you enjoy most about being on the road?

I didn’t travel much when I was younger. Coming from such a small town, I used to be kind of intimidated with the thought of traveling to another country or to a big city. But in the past 10 years or so I’ve seen a little more of the world. And I’ve come to realize that while people from different cultures and cities have differences, we actually have much more in common as humans. We all want love, purpose and happiness. And so one of greatest things about being on the road is meeting new people and finding those commonalities

What do you enjoy most about woodworking? How did you get into this hobby?

Every once in a while It’s nice to do something creative that isn’t music related. Woodworking is definitely a new hobby for me. I’m still getting my feet wet and I’ve got a lot to learn. Last year my wife was out of town for a week and so I decided to turn our basement into a wood working shop and build her a kitchen table. To my surprise, it doesn’t look half bad. I couldn’t have done it without youtube

Can you tell us a little bit about working on your upcoming full-length? What can fans expect in the fall?

I’m so excited for the full album to be released later this year. There’s not a song on the album that I’m not proud of. These songs come from a place deep in my heart…songs about hope, love and joy and my desire is that they would resonate with listeners in a very real way.
