Chicago electro-soul duo Bestfriends recently nailed a stripped down live performance of their chill, laid back track “Refine.” The single which is featured on their ‘Refine’ EP, is smooth and evokes thoughts of a hot sunny chi-town day, ironically it was recorded on a cold one!
“We managed to pick one of the coldest days in Chi-beria winter to record these live sessions. It wouldn’t have been the crazy if we didn’t have to move an entire recording studio from our place to the location. But that was how the day started in -8 degree weather moving lots of equipment. After that is was pretty much smooth sailings. We decided to record Refine with Greg on Keys and me (Nick) on drums because that was how the band was started. We used to do these late night open jazz jams at Gregs family’s house. It was our first time making music that wasn’t rock, and those vibes and sounds and chord progressions were what lead to the beginnings of Bestfriends. So we just wanted to let people in on what those nights were like.” – Nick
