New York duo The Knocks have been creating a buzz for quite a while with their remixes, collaborations, and original songs. They are ready this fall to release their debut album ENDISCO. GroundSounds caught up with the duo to chat about their history, plans, and of course, the new album.

Tell us about your upcoming debut album. How long have you been working on it? Having released a lot of music already, how does it feel to finally be releasing your debut?

It’s called ‘Endisco’ and we have basically been working on it our whole career. It feels really good to finally be putting out a body of work that we feel sums up what we’re about and where we are headed as artists. We like to think of it as Future Retro-ism or Neo-Classic as we like to say haha

My first introduction to you was a song called “Modern Hearts” with St. Lucia (a track I still play all the time). How did that collaboration come about and how did the song come together?

That was a track we had actually written with our friend Kaelyn in Australia. The vocal was done and everything, and our buddy that sang it actually sounded a lot like Jean of St. Lucia.  Jean’s a close friend so we played it for him and he loved it and recorded it that week.

“Classic” was just released and has such a fun vibe. What is the background/story behind that song?

Thanks, we actually started that song in LA with our friends from Powers who used to be in NYC for a long time. We had known them for years and had made music before but nothing ever got finished etc. This song basically was imagined in one day and then we went back to NYC and finished it up with them back and forth via sending files etc. We wanted to really make something that was reminiscent of 90s pop that we grew all up on.

Which track from the new album is the most fun to play live?

Probably at this point- this new song ‘Hit The Spot’ and now ‘Classic.’

What are your touring plans this fall/winter?

We are doing a short run with St. Lucia, another one with someone we can’t announce yet, and then probably our own headline in Jan.

Take us back to when you left music school in NY. What led you to leave and when was the moment you knew you had created something big with The Knocks?

We were both not even doing “The Knocks” yet really, we were just producing music for other artists, and rappers and just really felt like if we focused on music full time it would be for the best, and we were right.

What is your go-to spot in NY when you need to get away?

The Blind Barber!

Who are two current artists that you’d love to collaborate with on a track?

Kanye & R Kelly

You have already traveled around the world and played with some huge bands/artists. What tour or show stands out to you as the most memorable?

This last tour we did was probably the best one because it was our first headline and it just felt really good to not be supporting someone as we have so many times in the past.

Where is the best place to stay updated with you online?

Facebook.com/theknocksnyc and @theknocks on twitter
