PREMIERE: Cave Clove – “Kyrie”

Brendon Goldwasser

GroundSounds is very excited to premiere the upcoming 7″ release from Bay Area psych-folk ensemble Cave Clove. We’ve been fans of Cave Clove ever since their single “Still Just As Free” made waves along the California coast. For those new to the group, Cave Clove is a modern reincarnation of 50’s doo-wop at its best. Add to that a hint of bluegrass, a splash of R&B, and roots in traditional Americana, and you have a group with a stellar sound. Cave Clove will officially be releasing this 7″ single “Kyrie” with B side “Closer to the Moon” on this coming Friday, October 3rd at a show in Oakland. If you’re in the area, RSVP here and check it out!

Our friends at The Bay Bridged asked singer Katie Colver about the meaning behind “Kyrie” and here’s what she had to say:

” The song “Kyrie” is about reflecting on a relationship and how I showed up in it, and the regret and sadness I felt for not having been as much in my power as I would like to be. Wondering what it could have looked like if I had known what I wanted and known how to stand up for that. When I was writing the melody, the words “Kyrie Eleison” just popped into my head- I was in school choir growing up and we sang several different versions of Kyrie over the years. So, I used those words initially just as filler words while writing the melody, but then I looked up the meaning of these Greek words and discovered that they mean “Lord Have Mercy”. Asking for forgiveness seemed like a perfect thing to include in this song about regret, so I kept the words in the song. “

Stream both of the incredible new singles below and be sure to check out their official site for info on how to get them after the release this Friday. Enjoy!
