Generationals & Springtime Carnivore kick off West Coast tour at Troubadour

Brendon Goldwasser

It’s the Troubadour on a Wednesday night. The cool Fall air whisks through a bustling Santa Monica Blvd near the iconic venue in West Hollywood. Following the bright lights and approaching the entrance, this is a sold out show and the energy is electric. Drinks in hand and worries left at the door, everyone is ready for the night. It’s showtime.

Last night was the beginning of the Generationals’ West Cost tour. Emerging LA-based indie-pop group Springtime Carnivore will be following them on the road and opening up for them in San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, and Vancouver. Not bad! The night began with the soulful and bright songs from Springtime Carnivore. It was a perfect vibe to start the night out. They recently released their self-titled debut album, so the show consisted mostly of those new songs, which are all really catchy. Some of the standouts they performed were “Name on a Matchbook,” “Sun Went Back,” and “Keep Confessing.” If they’re coming to a city near you, I’d definitely try to catch them, you won’t be disappointed. In the meantime be sure to grab their new album.

After Springtime warmed up the crowd, it was time for the main act, Generationals, an awesome eletro/rock group from New Orleans. They brought some serious groove with them. Their songs are built with such simplicity and it really leaves a lot of open space for the drums and bass to carry the track. The group has great chemistry on stage, really playing off one another and keeping things tight. Some highlights from their set were their singles “Gold Silver Diamond” and “Welcome to the Fire.” Their new album Alix is a collection of songs that weave from 90’s alt-pop, to 80’s electro-pop. In any sense, their songs have soul, passion, and strong, emotional vocal melodies. Another definite “must see” act while the’re on this tour. Check out some more pictures from the show below and enjoy the tunes. See you at the next show folks!
