With modern instrumentals, beautiful vocal harmonies and thought provoking lyrics, Albuquerque based band Great States are gearing up for the release of their debut album Gatsby, it drops January 29th. Featured on the project is the fresh new track “Arcadia,” the songs accompanying video is premiering exclusively on GroundSounds.

Lead singer and guitarist Morgan Ching, had this to say about the bands latest track:

“I wrote ‘Arcadia’ about four years ago after my fourth bout with Fitzgerald’s ‘the Great Gatsby.’ Like some of the other songs on our upcoming album, ‘Arcadia’ stems from different literary elements presented within the novel; the song is a subtle head nod to the infamous mantle clock scene at Nick Carraway’s house, where Gatsby and Daisy meet again for the first time after 5 years. In that moment, time seemingly stands still and everything is perfect; Gatsby’s dream had come true. But it doesn’t last long – he knocks over the clock and then the moment is over. That’s what ‘Arcadia’ is. It’s the places in your life where time stands still. It’s the people that make you feel weightless. It’s the fleeting moments that you know you should cherish because ultimately things change and life happens. The arrangement didn’t come as easy as the song – we had to go through a few different variations before we hit the right one. However, the final version ended up getting worked out within a few hours and we were all really happy with it. I like to believe that pace of the song matches the pace of life itself – steady, one heartbeat at a time, moving forward unflinchingly.”
