California-based reggae/rock group Rebelution is gearing up for the release of their fifth studio album ‘Falling Into Place,’ it is set to drop June 3rd. With over 450,000 albums sold independently, the release of this new album finds the group more energized than ever. GroundSounds recently caught up with frontman Eric Rachmany to talk about the bands latest project, musical inspirations and more, check out the exclusive interview below.

You guys will be heading on a  summer tour very soon, what do you enjoy most about being on the road? What are you looking forward to most about this tour?

I just love expressing myself on stage.  I always tell people music is my first language.  It’s how I can express who I am.  In between the shows it’s a bit rough but getting on stage makes it worth it.  Really looking forward to playing some of these new songs live.

We initially named the album ‘Falling Into Place’ because of the way it was written and recorded.  We wrote songs at home, on the road, out of the country, and then recorded it in multiple places as well.  We worked with different people than our previous albums and it all came together into what we think is one cohesive album.  It seemed fitting to name it ‘Falling Into Place’.  Since then, the name means something a bit more to us than just the way it was written and recorded.

You guys have independently sold over 450,000 records- this is an amazing feat, can you tell us about selling the 1st one up until now? Could you have ever imagined this journey?

It’s crazy.  We recorded our first 5 song demo in an apartment in Camarillo CA and sold it out of our own apartment in Isla Vista CA.  It was all for fun.  We knew we had something special and kept it going.  The journey has been awesome.  Looking forward to keeping it going.

What has been the key to success other than amazing music?

Success to me is about how much love you can spread each and every day you’re alive.  I credit my own success to keeping a positive mentality.  I try to remind myself to smile and be grateful every day.  If you keep that mentality you can make an impact on the people around you.  I struggle at times and I often rely on music to help me get out of a rough patch.

Can you tell us about the creative and writing process involved with your guys’ latest herb anthem “Inhale Exhale?”

Our goal with herb anthems is simple.  We write one and listen to it.  Ask ourselves does this song make you wanna light one up? If yes, then success.  I personally love music and I cannabis.  Whenever those two go together life is good.

What was the inspiration for “Upper Hand?”

Upper Hand is a song that was created on the spot in the studio.  Most songs we write are done prior to the studio.  Supa Dups who produced about half the album recommended we link up with his buddy Ethan Thompson to collaborate on a song.  Upper Hand just sort of came together.  Usually I write most of the lyrics but everyone in the band really contributed on that song, including some great lines from Ethan and our drummer Wes.

When you guys are on stage performing what goes through your mind? What are you guys feeling?

I don’t pay much attention to anybody in the crowd individually.  I try to just get into the song both musically and lyrically.  Like I said earlier, it’s my time to be who I am.

What musicians/bands are you guys currently listening to?

I’ve been listening to a lot of David Gilmour’s solo album.  He’s one of my favorites.

What does the future hold for Rebelution? What can fans look forward to?

More touring, more albums.
