The Brocks may be “Going Nowhere” with their hit single, but their music is going somewhere you’ll want to be…

Lead singer Dean Brock of The Brocks grew up knowing that his connection to music was much deeper than most.

“My passion for music started early because I just loved the way music could make you feel.”

It was that passion that led him down the path to become a musician and collaborate efforts with others alike; to produce something that sparked that same feeling when people listened to their music. With their latest single titled Going Nowhere”, it’s hard not to feel a connection.

Opening with a heavy handed escalation of piano chords and a steady back beat, “Going Nowhere”  transitions into electronic rhythms that add to the fun and funky feel of this fusion of musical elements. Harmonic vocals and the distorted echoing of words add depth to the lyrics, while playing into the idea of being steady but wanting movement.

“Going Nowhere is really about the frustration in not being able to, or not knowing how to help a loved one.”

About the band:

Though Provo, Utah has had some substantial influence on The Brocks because of the success of other big bands emerging and having a strong music scene, the band itself (Dane Brock-lead vocals, Christian Darais-drums, Morgan Ence-guitar, and Ryan King-bass) consists of bandmembers from many different regions, walks of life and musical interests. It’s because of their unique talents and backgrounds, both in traditional and electronic instrumentals, that they are able to cohabitate and create new elemental sounds to define their own music. Bonded by Sigur Ros and Jonsi’s solo work, the band began with a post-rock vibe then fine-tuned their artistry to now be what they consider more of a  indie-electronic sound.

“We wanted to be in a genre that would let us grow and be versatile, while still being relevant and giving us room to be creative.”

Through trial and error, learning to work collaboratively and having the influence and experience of producers, engineers and countless mentors, they streamlined their music and performance skills to make them the success they are today. The Brocks have seen quite a few high profile commercial placements over the past year or so – including the Mountain Dew commercial Arctic Surf with their song “Won’t Stop Here,” their Kaskade collaboration track “Summer Nights” in the EDC documentary Under The Electric Sky, and their song “Circles” in an international Kenneth Cole ad for their cologne Mankind.

“We’ve learned that no matter how good the music is, there aren’t any shortcuts. It’s taken time to understand some of the nuances of the music industry, and we’ve learned to trust eachother’s specific talents in order to progress.”

The Brocks currently have many songs and videos in the works, and in the future would like to possibly work or tour with artists like Miike Snow, M83, Brandon Flowers and Flume, just to name a few.

“While we have our sights set on national/international touring, we’re just really excited to release these songs and play them anywhere we can.”
