Today we’re thrilled to premiere Austin-based band The Nightowls new Royal Sessions EP. Royal Sessions is The Nightowls’ 4th studio release.  It is the follow up to our previous full length album, Fame Sessions, released in September 2015 which was recorded at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Al.  For the new EP, the band traveled to Memphis, Tn and recorded the album at Royal Studios where Al Green also recorded. The result is a soul-inspired EP filled with compelling tracks you’ll be replaying all day.

In their own words:
“It was an honor and inspiration to record in such an historic studio that houses vintage gear and a lifetime of soul, R&B history.

Royal Sessions marks a pivotal moment in the history of The Nightowls because our writing process and overall sound really began to come together through these songs.  Most of the songs were written on the road while the band toured last Fall 2015.  However, “Can’t Bring Me Down” was a song that lead singer Ryan Harkrider had written years ago for his solo project and shelved until recently when the band decided to re-arrange it for this album.  We felt that the song lyrics and meaning were especially poignant given the hectic 6 months we’ve had on the road.

One of our favorite moments on the EP is the group vocal on track 1, “Right Around the Corner.”  We recorded the entire vocal track live in the studio and when we got to the ending it turned into a dance party.  We actually captured this moment on camera and turned it into a music video for the song.”
