Ryal is comprised of Jacque Ryal: vocals, keys and Aaron Nevezie: modular synth, analog drum machines, keys & production. The duo combines the soulfulness of Solange with the dream pop of The xx, and is an artistic vision of music with a unique style, an emotional vision, and a glittering inclusive world view. Inspired by the vintage electronic textures of pulsing modular synth bass lines locked to analog drum machines and keyboards, the music blends live guitar and drum kit for an experience that combines the minimalism of Eno with the energy of the club, where the venue becomes a live wire that dances with the electricity of the songs.

Today we’re excited to premiere the new song “How Much Longer Must We Fight” – streaming below! The word electricity is definitely appropriate here. Put simply, the song kicks ass. We’re excited for you to hear it!

Ryal on the song:

Last year I started writing this track and my focus for it was “simplicity”. Simplicity in thought, story, lyric, melody and chord progression. I love to be ambiguous and picturesque in lyrics so this was an exercise in being straightforward. I brought the track to Aaron and in a matter of minutes he built this poppy snappy clap arrangement that was perfect. We kept calling it our “cute” track. For our last record we wrote and recorded the tracks first, then learned how to play them live. For “How Much Longer” we wrote it and then played it live before we finished recording and mixing the track.

I think this process really helped ease the vocal recording process and gave us the time we needed to marinate and make final additions to the track. Additionally, I had one line in the lyric that just wasn’t clear – (back to my ambiguous ways). Aaron called it out and we revised the line to keep with the clarity and simplicity theme. We wanted it to feel like a conversation, words one could say and that it not feel like a song in the process of speaking. The conversation is not an easy one. Speaking ones truth, being honest and the wanting of the relationship to work out. The arrangement backdrop is beyond adorable and inviting so it’s a great dichotomy and helps prevent the honest conversation from taking a dark and twisty turn and that no matter the outcome, all will be ok in the end.

Stream the track below and be sure to connect online for more. Also DO NOT MISS Ryal at Rockwood Music Hall in NYC this Friday 1/18!
