Tali Azerad is a multilingual vocalist, songwriter and performer who effortlessly crosses musical boundaries. When Tali was 10, her family — Moroccan parents who had immigrated to Israel and later France — moved to the U.S. Not speaking English at first, she turned to music. Her first vocal experience in school was singing the National Anthem, which served as an audition to get on the school choir. Music helped her learn the language and eventually, evolved into a confident form of self-expression.

Tali’s first post-school music experience was joining reggae legend Ras Michael (Bob Marley, Peter Tosh) on his tour of France. She also continued performing as a solo artist, as a back-up singer and as a guest vocalist with the Pink Floyd tribute band Which One’s Pink?

In 2020, she began writing with Allen Moreno and multi-instrumentalist / engineer / producer Scott Eric Olivier (Michael Jackson, Gwen Stefani, Chris Cornell). The results of their new collaboration is Azerad’s most polished and expansive music yet, with music that touches on everything from R&B to rock to world music.

I put on Tali’s new album on a rainy day and found it perfectly suited the weather. Not to say the music is sad or slow – it’s full of vibrancy and passion, but the vibe she creates with the opener “Drifting” just seemed to fit with the mood outside.

The songs that follow are intriguing, incredibly well-constructed, and elegant. The light and breezy “Bliss” has a fun bounciness with a great hook, and “On My Mind” and “Whispers in the Breeze” slow things down and shine a light on Tali’s vocals. The powerful closer “Where Do We Go” is the perfect cap on one of the strongest albums you’ll hear this year.

Right now Tali is a hidden gem, so do yourself a favor and make today the day you discover her music. Stream “Bliss” below and be sure to check out the full album!
