Toronto Pop Artist pssyclwz Collaborates with Singer-Songwriter Delilah Jolie on New Single “party animalz”

In this era of bottomless content consumption, Toronto’s pssyclwz is committed to creating campy content for outsiders who can’t relate to songs written by popular girls. After a year of imagination and production, the pssyclwz EP dropped May 2024 and was very well received. pssyclwz can’t stop/won’t stop writing bangers to turn bad days into dope tracks, and will continue to release singles while she works on her debut album supermilf.

pssyclwz and self-proclaimed “goddess in progress hermaphrodite” Delilah Jolie have spent over a decade collaborating, spirituality bonding through their worship of Lana Del Rey, and supporting their respective creative pursuits. The duo teamed up on the brand new single, “party animalz,” an acoustic sad girl song turned party bop. Reminiscent of Bloodhound Gang’s “The Bad Touch,” this summer jam oozes 90s nostalgia.

I’m all about the alter ego when it comes to art and wish everyone embraced this perfect medium to understand their “shadow side.” The hypersexualization of pssyclwz seems like a direct contradiction to this, but is very much in gest and a commentary on being grossly misunderstood in my pursuit of validation. For all the times I haven’t been able to say what I mean, it’s very satisfying to find the perfectly sassy words and to share them as intended without stuttering or defecating. pssyclwz

1. What did you enjoy most about the recording process of this new release?
I recorded the EP remotely, so being back in the studio with producer Samuel Kochany and my collaborator Delilah Jolie was a much livelier experience. We had too much fun adding ridiculous elements from cheeky lyrics to animal noises. I believe there are almost 600 samples on the track!

2. Share a nugget of advice that has resonated with you most over the years.
It’s tempting to look for validation, but you know better than any teacher, critic or troll how to do what you do. Trying to make music that appeals to everyone is a losing battle.

3. Who would be your dream artist/band to co-headline a tour with?
I’ve had this dream often and have to say Lana Del Rey because she is human art. Nelly Furtado or Arcade Fire if this hypothetical co-headliner had to be Canadian. I could go on forever!

4. What sets your music apart from others in your genre?
A lot of pop music consists of popular people singing about being popular. I’m very socially awkward and think other lone wolves will be happy to hear more songs written from their perspective. The first time I heard the introverts anthem “Here” by Alessia Cara was such a relief.

5. Tell us what your favourite song is at the moment and why.
My favourite song right now is an oldie, “Superman” by Eminem, I’m dying to cover it. He was my first love. When my dad confiscated his album I was devastated, and decades later he is still so fresh.
