Nigerian Afrobeats newcomer Maye has teamed up with North West London’s genre-blending artist Trunkie for “Abena,” a sun-soaked single that blends modern Afro-fusion with soulful pop. The track, released this week, celebrates feminine charm, cultural identity, and the magnetic pull of summer romance. With smooth production and heartfelt delivery, Abena promises to be a standout addition to playlists for late-night drives, dancefloors, and intimate moments.
This release marks the first collaboration between Maye and Trunkie, though their chemistry feels natural and unforced. The song’s title draws from Trunkie’s Ghanaian roots. In Akan culture,”Abena” is a name given to girls born on Tuesday, adding a subtle layer of cultural meaning and depth. The single connects the artists’ distinct backgrounds into a seamless, spirited fusion.
Maye, still early in his career, brings a fresh, vibrant voice to the track. Trunkie, known for his versatile sound, adds polish and experience. His previous work includes co-signs from BBC 1Xtra, Pulse FM, and The Beat London. In 2020, his collaboration with Jethro ‘Alonestar’ Sheeran, Raise Em Up, topped the iTunes Hip-Hop charts and landed on the Official Download Chart.
Together, Maye and Trunkie have created more than a song. “Abena” is a snapshot of cultural pride and modern romance, wrapped in rhythm and warmth.
