Ev. G Confronts Life’s Shifting Seasons on “Allure,” the Focus Track of Debut ‘And Then I Go Up’ LP

Calgary, AB/Los Angeles, CA-based newcomer Ev. G makes a striking debut with And Then I Go Up – a bold, atmospheric, and deeply introspective album that navigates identity, inner contradictions, and the quiet transformations that define us. Inspired by Greek mythology, Stanley Kubrick, Alan Watts, Oliver Sacks, and literary figures like Kafka, Hesse, and Carver, the album is a dense collage of ideas, pulled into sharp focus by Ev‘s curiosity about what it really means to be.

Recorded over several years across multiple iconic spaces – including Sound City (LA), Studio B in Calgary, Tall Pines (Temagami), and Will Maclellan‘s Pasadena studio – And Then I Go Up evolved through collaboration with producers Brock Geiger and Maclellan, who encouraged Ev to strip back comfort zones and continually reshape the songs until they reached their truest form.

“Anytime BrockWill, and I were in a room together, it just felt like a good hang,” says Ev. “Making the album over time in different settings allowed us to approach with fresh ears and figure out what the songs needed which resulted in each one undergoing some major revisions. Those were some of my favourite parts of the whole process – taking something I’d grown used to hearing a certain way, then reimagining it to serve the song in the best way we could.”

At the heart of the record is its lead single “Allure” – one of the earliest tracks written after Ev returned to music following a long break. Built on a hook preserved from the original voice memo demo, the track meditates on the contradictions of moving through life’s seasons – holding on while learning to let go, longing while leaning toward acceptance.

“The invisible undercurrent of longing isn’t there anymore – the allure’s gone,” says Ev. “Now you can just gaze back on that season with fondness.”

With And Then I Go UpEv. G doesn’t just introduce himself as an artist to watch. He creates a sonic world all his own, one that asks more questions than it answers, but resonates in its honesty.
