Tiger La Flor was never built for staying still. The Japanese-Korean-American indie-pop artist has moved through cities like changing scenes in a film—Seattle, Barcelona, Chicago, New York, Medellín, London, Los Angeles, Paris—slipping into a different version of herself wherever she lands. Each place becomes a new backdrop, a new character, a new chapter. For La Flor, movement and creativity are inseparable: “To make good art, you have to live a life that feels artistic.”
Her long-awaited EP, Hollywoodland, has officially arrived via Arista Records, ushering listeners into a world where old-Hollywood glamour collides with modern-day romance. At its center is the title track, “HOLLYWOODLAND,” a cinematic pop gem layered with Bee Gees-inspired harmonies, Dolly Parton-esque vocal warmth, Chris Isaak-style western guitar, and sweeping vintage orchestration.
Set against the backdrop of a barroom conversation between two women, the song unfolds like a piece of late-night advice—equal parts glamorous, funny and bittersweet. Through its hazy melodies and widescreen production, “HOLLYWOODLAND” captures the seductive illusion and inevitable heartbreak of dating in Los Angeles, while opening the door to the larger emotional landscape of the EP.
For La Flor, HOLLYWOODLAND began with a question that followed her home to L.A. from Paris: What, exactly, was romantic about this city? The answer certainly wasn’t sitting motionless in traffic. But when she began imagining Los Angeles through the lens of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood—a city suspended somewhere between myth and memory—the romance came rushing back.
