Born in the Netherlands and now based in Los Angeles, Duncan Laurence has spent his career turning vulnerability into music. The singer, songwriter, pianist, and producer has never been confined to a single sound, weaving together piano-led pop, folk-inspired textures, electronic production, and cinematic orchestration to create music that feels both deeply personal and widescreen.
Laurence’s rise began with “Arcade,” the song that carried him to victory at Eurovision 2019 and quickly grew into a worldwide phenomenon. His debut album, Small Town Boy, looked back at the journey of leaving home and finding a life beyond the town that shaped him. With 2023’s Skyboy, he pushed further outward, experimenting with new sonic territory while continuing to sharpen his emotional point of view.
Now, “New To You” introduces another side of Laurence’s artistry. The single dwells in the fragile space between familiarity and distance, asking what happens when someone you once knew instinctively begins to feel like a stranger. It is a song about wanting to return to a connection—not by recreating the past, but by learning how to see each other again. Duncan revealed this about his latest fresh new track:
“‘New To You’ started with a complicated connection and the feeling of being looked at differently by someone who once saw something special in me. I found myself wondering what I could change, what I could become, what it would take to feel new to them again… Maybe becoming ‘new’ doesn’t mean becoming someone else. Maybe it means finding your way back to the parts of yourself you forgot were there.”
There is a quiet sense of rediscovery at the heart of “New To You,” as Laurence transforms the uncertainty of changing intimacy into something tender and reflective. It marks the beginning of a fresh creative era, one that expands his musical language while preserving the emotional honesty that has always been at its core.
