It’s a fresh chapter from one of music’s most celebrated storytellers—and one that invites listeners to feel every word.
Good Grief is her seventh studio album and the latest evolution of a career spanning two decades. Across 14 tracks, Bareilles explores the weight of loss and everything that comes after, allowing heartbreak, reflection and resilience to exist side by side. For all its sorrow, Good Grief ultimately reaches toward something brighter—a quiet, persistent optimism that refuses to disappear.
“This whole collection of songs felt like transmissions rather than a deliberate attempt to make sense of the world,” says Bareilles. “My deepest hope is that Good Grief provides some kind of comfort or catharsis.”
The story behind Good Grief is also coming to the big screen! Capturing the album’s creation from the inside out, Sara Bareilles: Good Grief will offer an intimate, unfiltered look at the artist as she returned to the recording studio alongside close friends for the first time in seven years.
Directed by Josh Alexander and produced by Daniel J. Chalfen, the documentary will hit theaters nationwide this fall, opening September 2 in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami and more than 35 additional U.S. cities.
Bareilles will also take Good Grief on the road with her deeply personal Good Grief Tour, promoted by Live Nation. The North American trek officially gets underway September 9, bringing the emotional world of the album to stages across the country.
