Few ensembles have shaped the sound of African music quite like Orchestra Baobab. For more than five decades, the legendary collective has captivated audiences worldwide with its signature blend of Afro-Cuban rhythms, Wolof griot traditions, mbalax, Congolese rumba, and jazz. Originally formed as the house band for Dakar’s iconic Baobab Club, the group’s genre-defying sound has become a cornerstone of African music, influencing generations of artists while transcending borders and cultures.
Now, Orchestra Baobab embarks on an exciting new chapter with Made In Senegal, their first studio album since 2017’s acclaimed Tribute To Ndiouga Dieng. Set for release through Strut Records in partnership with Madoky Music, the album is a heartfelt celebration of home, heritage, love, and resilience. Recorded entirely in Dakar, Made In Senegal reflects the band’s enduring connection to its roots while reaffirming the timeless artistry that continues to make Orchestra Baobab one of the world’s most revered musical ambassadors.
Made In Senegal stands as another defining chapter in Orchestra Baobab’s extraordinary legacy, seamlessly balancing a contemporary perspective with the rich musical traditions that have long shaped the band’s unmistakable sound. Rooted in Senegal’s vibrant cultural heritage yet infused with renewed creative energy, the album reaffirms why Orchestra Baobab remains one of Africa’s most influential and enduring musical ensembles.
As the group continues to bridge generations through its timeless artistry, Made In Senegal offers the perfect introduction for new listeners while rewarding longtime fans with the elegant, hypnotic rhythms that have captivated audiences around the world for more than five decades.
