PUMA and Creative Director A$AP ROCKY are stepping into new territory with the debut of the Straycat, a bold new sneaker that pulls inspiration from the brand’s trail-running archives and reimagines it through a distinctly modern lens.
Selected by Rocky himself, the silhouette looks back to the 2005 Ouninpohja Explorador II, transforming its rugged DNA into something far more aggressive. Trail-born utility meets the visual language of motorsport, resulting in a sneaker that feels equally at home on city streets, in the paddock or on the edge of the dancefloor.
The Straycat makes an immediate statement through its layered, heavily textured upper. A black-and-grey foundation is contrasted by intentionally distressed materials and flashes of red and orange framing the collar. A metallic-silver PUMA Formstrip cuts across the sidewall, while a distinctive lime-green double-lacing system adds another unexpected hit of color and texture.
Underfoot, the silhouette gets even more serious. A substantial wraparound sole reinforces the sneaker’s rugged attitude, combining Vibram-enhanced rubber with tire-inspired traction designed to echo the world of motorsport. Adding an extra signature detail, the outsole marks Vibram’s first true co-branded design, complete with a custom PUMA cat logo positioned near the toe.
With Rocky’s eye for cultural crossover driving the concept, the Straycat turns archival trail inspiration into a futuristic statement — blurring the line between performance footwear, motorsport attitude and contemporary street style.
