LA-based artist and producer SHOOP is back with “Holy Smokes!”, a genre-bending burst of pure serotonin that lives somewhere between “please don’t let this end” and “wait… what am I even doing next?” Bright, chaotic, and ridiculously catchy, the track bottles up that end-of-the-night feeling when everything is hitting just right—and you’re absolutely not ready for the vibes to be over.
With cowriters Jonah Shy and Paul Dally and co-producer Suzy Shinn in the mix, SHOOP throws fuzzy new wave, boogie-rock, and sun-soaked alt-pop into one gloriously messy, impossible-not-to-sing-along-to track. “‘Holy Smokes!’ is ironic because it sonically is so happy and fun, but it’s about realizing how easy it is to want so many things that seem impossible, almost to a point of it being depressing to even get close to attaining any of them — wishing for this, wishing for that. It’s a scary thing that a lot of us can do with expecting the grass to always be greener, but ultimately you’re left on a balcony just waiting for something to make sense and tell you it’s all gonna work out.”
SHOOP’s solo chapter is putting a spotlight on what his longtime collaborators and day-one fans already clocked: there’s something seriously offbeat brewing here—wildly original, sneakily addictive, and way more potent than it first lets on.
