Artist Spotlight: Aiyana Cadwell

Brendon Goldwasser

There is so much talent in this city! This week, I have the pleasure of introducing you to an incredible singer, songwriter, & pianist. Her name is Aiyana Cadwell and she’s here to make your day better with beautiful songs and melodies.  Her music is really natural and always seems to make me feel like I’m floating. Okay, maybe not floating, but it makes me feel lighter and more at ease about the trivial and complicated aspects of life. She’s definitely an artist with a great sense of timing and dynamics; she knows how to take you on a journey with each song.

Aiyana has been exposed to music for most of her life. As a young child, music played a big part in her upbringing. She started playing keyboard when she was six and played flute in middle and high-school band, while also singing in choir in churches and at school. Eventually she discovered Tori Amos when she was in high school and that is what really inspired her to work harder at music and singing. At eighteen, she decided to take music more seriously by studying piano in college. After earning her degree in Music from UCF she began working as a professional musician, first in Orlando and now in the great city of Los Angeles.

For the past 5 years she’s been hard at work, writing, performing, and creating amazing records. She independently released her first full length album Wreaking Honey in 2008. Her most recent follow-up to that album is her 4-track EP Jasmine in June which was released last year. Both of these are available for streaming on the wonderful Spotify. I suggest you check these out as soon as you finish reading this. My favorite tracks off of these albums are ‘Another Man’s Dream’, ‘Fire and the Snow’, and ‘Don’t Want Anything’.

Aiyana is most certainly doing all of the right things and working with the right people. She has slowly been building a solid following here in the big city, but she can always use more support, this is where you come in. If you enjoy her music, please be sure to “Like” her facebook page and subscribe to her YouTube Channel. Lastly, check out her Bandcamp page for more music and to see where she is playing around town next. If you’re so inclined to purchase her music, it can be found on iTunes, CD Baby, or Amazon. I’m really excited to see what she has in store for us this year and I believe this is the beginning of a long, fruitful career in the music industry.
