Featuring a youthful sense of longing and a dynamic pop sound, Omaha, Nebraska based indie-rockers Twinsmith recently hit us with their second album ‘Alligator Years.’ With the single “Said and Done” leading the way, the album is definitely a fresh collection of tracks that expands upon their debut LP.

GroundSounds recently caught up with frontman Jordan Smith to talk about their latest project, musical inspirations and more, check out the exclusive interview below.

For those just discovering Twinsmith, how did you guys meet and start making music?

Matt and I met in high school and started/played in bands up until now. A few lineup and name changes through the years but for now we are sticking with Twinsmith.

What made you guys decide on the name Twinsmith?

My name is Jordan Smith and I love the Minnesota Twins.

What do you guys enjoy most about Omaha, NE? What is one thing every visitor should do or see?

Omaha is a very creative community. Everyone supports each other here and there is a lot of talent in this city. You can make it in this city if you want to do something creative so it’s a comfortable place to live in.

If you come to this city you should definitely check out the Zoo. But if you like hanging we have a lot of cool bars and really great places to eat here.

It was just a lot of demoing songs and working with friends of ours to make it actually happen.  It took us a bout a good solid year to write but it definitely feels good to have it out. We are going to tour on this album for the rest of the year and start the process all over again.

What was the inspiration for your track “Lost Time?”

That song was actually way different when we first started playing it. I think we played it a little “harder” or something. But I know the end goal was the try and mellow it out. The inspiration was everyone being happy with the end product.

Can you tell us about the writing and creative process involved with your track “Said and Done?”

When we were writing that song I was actually playing drums (I am the guitar player) and matt our other guitar player had bought this new guitar pedal that does this cool octave harp effect. We just started jamming and the song kind of just clicked rhythmically. For the writing of the lyrics I wanted to do something dark but have the song be upbeat and sound happy. Pretty weird stuff.

What was it like working with director Gabriel Younes and shooting the music video for “Said and Done?”

Oh he’s the best. We wanted him to have full control on the video and the end product shows. It was cool to see it all come together the way he explained and wanted it planned. Excited to see what else he does in the future.

What musicians/bands are you guys currently listening to?

Oh we are all over the place.

Prince, Huey Lewis, Beach Boys.  this guy name Jmsn is pretty sweet too.

What’s next for Twinsmith, what can fans look forward to?

Right now we have a couple tours planned out for the rest of the year. But after that we are going to start writing again and have plans for a new record.
