JAYA Drops Video for “Learn To Swim”

Canadian singer JAYA released the video to her single “Learn To Swim” to hold us over until the release of her solo debut album Everybody’s Getting Married which is coming soon!

JAYA’s sound is very mellow with bittersweet vibes and this song is no exception.  While the video uses playful imagery to express joy and a carefree attitude, as you see people on the beach and at the pool on a hot summer day, the lyrics tell a different story.

With lyrics like I can’t save a ship from sinking, that wasn’t made to float” and “I can’t do the heavy lifting, the water is rising too fast” I feel as though JAYA is trying to express that she can’t save someone that doesn’t want to or can’t save themselves; most likely referring to relationship woes.

The title, which is repeated throughout the hook, is “You gotta learn to swim”, which is the most true part of the song in my opinion.  As stated before, someone needs to want saving before someone else can save them.
