Review: Mt. Joy and Wilderado live in Los Angeles at The Wiltern

Brendon Goldwasser

We recently had the chance to check out two awesome bands, Wilderado and Mt. Joy, at The Wiltern in Los Angeles. Both groups really held it down and put on impressive shows!

Wilderado kicked the night off with selections off of their incredible new EP, ‘Favors.’ The group, consisting of four members (lead singer/guitarist Max Rainer, bassist/vocalist Colton Dearing, guitarist/vocalist Tyler Wimpee, and drummer Justin Kila), recorded the EP with production mastermind Phil Ek (Father John Misty, Fleet Foxes). The songs translated perfectly to a live setting. Their sound is epic, full of soaring melodies, gritty rock tones, and distinctive songwriting. We’re glad to put these guys on your radar if you haven’t heard of them yet. We’re excited to see them do more next year!

Next up was 5-piece indie-rock outfit Mt. Joy, started by Philadelphia high school friends Matt Quinn (vocals, guitar) and Sam Cooper (guitar). Their live show was full of both new and old tunes, all which had a nice soulful consistency that has helped them build their reputation the past couple of years. The group clearly showed they’re talented musicians and it comes through when you see how they connect on stage and how the songs resonate with the audience. They mostly played songs off of their self-titled album from last year, but they did also make time to jam out on their newest single “Rearrange Us.” We’re also excited to see what this crew gets up to next year. Check out our exclusive pics of the show below!
