World/folk singer-songwriter Shane Palko is gearing up to release his new album, Swahili Surreal, was recorded in studios across Tanzania as part of a joint project with the Tanzanian Parliament to help provide studio access to rural communities in the country. All proceeds from Swahili Surreal will go towards the construction of a recording studio in Mafinga, Tanzania.

Palko, who currently resides in Spain, has a string of US dates to perform and celebrate the release of Swahili Surreal, before returning to East Africa to continue working on the studio project and the follow-up album that he’s already begun writing. Looking forward, there’s no telling where Palko will end up, but that’s just the way he wants it. “The way I see it, you’ve gotta be alive somewhere, so you may as well be alive all over, trying something new,” he says. “Sharing music, getting to hear other musicians and inviting people back to your place to come and play another time makes it all worth it for me.”

Today we are thrilled to premiere his new track “Your Game” – streaming below! The track is a fantastic showcase of Palko’s vocals…it hooks you in by balancing delicate guitar-work with a powerful narrative. Great song, great mission.

Palko on the song:

I think there are some elements in this song that a lot of people have experienced. Have you ever worked so hard on something, only to find that it didn’t matter as much as you thought? I wrote this song the second time I was in Tanzania. I was there working along with Parliament Member Kigola to make a recording studio to help document the fading traditional songs of rural Tanzania. We are building a recording studio in a town that has none. There are many great studios in Tanzania; but there are also many rural towns without good places in which to record. On that trip, we worked with many amazing people to train musicians how to record their own music. It is exciting to see a strong music community becoming stronger and working together to build a place and the skills to help each other record their own music.
