Somali born Norway based artist Musti caught up with Max Wrolstad to talk about her debut album, “Qoyskayga”. She discusses rapping in three languages, breaking glass ceilings, and using her music as a journal.
She made a big splash last year at the Øya Festival in Oslo, Norway and also grabbed attention with her Black Panther-inspired performance at Amnesty Norway’s anti-racism live stream benefit earlier this year. Born in Somalia, growing up in London, and then eventually settling in Norway has influenced her music in fascinating ways, creating an intoxicating amalgamation of UK grime, Afropop, and R&B.
