Interview with Bei Sims

Bei Sims, rapper/producer from Cleveland, OH is definitely on his way! Making all the necessary moves he proves that he has what it takes as he puts on for his city as if his name was Kyrie Irving. Learn about his successes and journey as as we got the chance to chop it up with him!
-Bei Sims, what up bro, how goes it?
Stressful. Lol. im just grinding and enjoying the process right now.

-What made you change the spelling of your rap name?
B.Sims just seemed so premature to me. So many people that want to rap just throw their first name first initial with their last name and call it a day. I didn’t want to fall into that category. But people have called me that since middle school, so I wanted to keep my name but just a new way to spell it.

-At what age did you delve into music?
11.

-Were you a producer or a rapper first? What do you like better?
Producer first. But I definitely like rapping better. I just use producing like a cheat code to create the vibe I want for my songs.

-Being from Cleveland, are you a fan of the sports teams around there?
Of course. Especially the Cavs. We making a comeback 2013-2014 season.

-How  would you describe the underground music scene in the Land?
Crabs-in-a-barrel.. Everybody want a chance to make it big but we only have a few resources, as far as outlets and people that can help us. So everybody is fighting each other for that limited attention.

-What has been your greatest achievement musically thus far?
Hard to choose just one, but it just was a great feeling meeting up with Dj Green Lantern in NYC. After doing his Hip Hop Nation show, riding around times square in his Benz and he just giving me the stamp of approval. Considering the massive role he’s played in hip hop.

-Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?
I definitely see myself on top of the rap game in 5 years and 10 years from now too.

-Number the following artists 1-5 with 1 being the best and 5 being the opposite….Wale, J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Meek Mill…
1. Drake 2. J. Cole 3. Kendrick Lamar 4. Wale 5. Meek Mill. I honestly do like and listen to them all though.

-Lebron or Kyrie?
I’ll always admire Lebron and how dominant he is and he’s one of the best to do it. But i’m from Cleveland and until he returns here, I have to ride with Kyrie. Me and Kyrie the same age and both trying to take the city to the next level. I just really identify with him right now.

-You’ve been working with Mr. Peter Parker for a minute now, how did that connection come about?
He hosted my first “official” mixtape. And while putting the project together, we spoke back and fourth on the phone a lot and he just understood the vision and respected the music, so that was a relationship I had to build on.

-What is your favorite moment in hip-hop history?
Jay-Z and Nas battle.

-That ‘Gotta Know’ track w/ Dizzy Wright is DOPE! With the video coming out with only you on the joint, was the original plan to get him on the record or was it just a spur of the moment type remix?
Thank you..No I made the original song at very beginning of 2012 before I knew of him. It was just a spur of the moment thing, where I knew he would sound dope on it.

-Whose house was the ‘Lights Off’ video shot at?
My homie will house.

-How do you feel about Rick Ross and the controversy towards his ‘U.O.E.N.O.’ lyrics when comparing them with the lyrics and concept to your ‘Good Morning’ song/video?
I actually thought about that too when I first heard about the ross situation. I honestly think he was just carelessly rapping, not even paying attention to what he was really saying. Because I know that’s what it was for me. Just trying to creatively tell a story, not realizing that that shit is way out of line. Lol.

-How’d you hook up w/ DJ Green Lantern on your ‘Dazed And Confused’ mixtape? What was the response like from that recent project?
I just wanted to work with more respected people in this industry that also respect what I do, So I reached out to him. And I got a very good response from everyone that heard it. I just wished we could’ve brought some more attention to it.

-Anything else you wanna tell the fans, readers, listeners?
The Misled Ep coming early October!!
