Pittsburgh folk/pop artist townsppl (Alex Stanton) is gearing up to release his album twigs on 11/10. The album was recorded in his kitchen and mixed & mastered by Jake Hanner of Donora. We’re excited to premiere the video for “twigs” today and hopefully introduce townsppl to some new ears. Press play on the video and if you aren’t in a better mood within 30 seconds, something’s wrong. Colorful animation & illustrations dance around as Alex’s upbeat music and charming vocals set the tone for a truly memorable song with a big, happy chorus you’ll be replaying all day.

Alex on the song & video:

I usually try not to think too hard about what my songs are about and just follow them where they want to go. The song twigs seems to be about the experience of being a kid and how being carefree is a skill. It’s about how as an adult being lost or outside of your comfort zone maybe feels like a bigger deal than it should. There is a thread throughout the album about characters being dragged kicking and screaming into adulthood, as well as a bit of a future dystopian backdrop.

Over the past year I’ve been playing a lot with taking photos and video from the real world and overlaying drawings to make augmented reality. I use it as a lateral thinking exercise and also as a reminder to take a deeper look at the things you walk past every day.

Watch the video below and be sure to connect online for more! Also, if you’re in Pittsburgh on 11/10, go check out the album release show at Club Cafe.
