Imagination Movers Release Beautiful and Diverse Album ’10-4′

By SHARON JENNINGS

Imagination Movers don’t have any songs about baby sharks on the new album 10-4, but that’s probably for the best.

The remarkable success of the “Baby Shark” song and video (with more than 2 billion views on YouTube) proves that there is a place in this world for childrens’ music. But the music of Imagination Movers is actually good.

Imagination Movers have assembled a collection of songs that are diverse – there’s beauty, catchy tunes and fun lyrics, like those in “Fuzzy Little Cat,” our favorite song on the record.

There’s something about family friendly music that is both annoying and great at the same time. We all feel we’re too old to hear kids’ music, but this music is different. A song like album opener “Socks” would not be a kids song if it were not about learning to account for your clothing.

Another track on the album “Is That Wrong” is a bold rocker. It has a blues style and it’s another example of a song that if the lyrics were not about Magic Markers and cutting your sister’s hair with scissors, it would be a popular mainstream song. The chorus has to do with running away from beef and broccoli. It’s easy to imagine this song on a TV commercial. All of the songs on the album are actually quite commercial.

“Sunday Morning Song” is so beautiful it can evoke emotion in any listener. It proves that there are real, experienced songwriters here. It’s a beautiful song about creating a nice atmosphere on a weekend day. It wouldn’t be a stretch to hear this melody played by some of the famous alternative rock groups today, it almost sounds a little like music from The National. And, by the way, who doesn’t want the nice moments to “last forever.” Even little kids can appreciate the beauty in this one.

But like a kid with a short attention span, Imagination Movers doesn’t stick with one genre. The new album 10-4 bounces around from blues to rap to rock and all of it’s good stuff.

The Imagination Movers got together in 2002 when four buddies from The Big Easy — Scott Durbin, Rich Collins, Dave Poche and Scott “Smitty” Smith — came up with the idea for a kids TV show.

For more than a decade, Imagination Movers have been on tour. The show has everything from confetti to wacky fun, all choreographed and arranged for family fun.

Imagination Movers can be seen on Disney Channel.
