Damon Mitchell to Release ‘Elise,’ a Simple But Elegant EP

By SHARON JENNINGS

Damon Mitchell gets his point across succinctly with the no-frills EP, Elise. It’s a deep and smartly crafted collection by a growing singer-songwriter.

Clearly influenced by the Beatles, Mitchell uses his strong vocals and straightforward tunes to convey the hopes we all feel from time to time. His voice is strong and sincere and he speaks from experience. Mitchell has a well-rounded music background and even got up on stage to sing with America, singing “A Horse With No Name.”

The first song on the EP, “Heist,” has a 1980s comedy piano permeating it and lulls you into a false sense of pop music, but from there the record moves into a range of different sounds.

The album brings back the sounds of the 1960s and 1970s and it’s a welcome relief compared to so much bland material out there.

Music: The Ultimate Storytelling Device

“Music has power,” Mitchell said. “It is an act of creation. It is a language. Music is a conduit to something bigger than ourselves; something far beyond us. It is a conduit, and yet is simply how we tell our stories.”

Elise is due out March 2, the same day as the record release party at C2G Music Hall in Fort Wayne, Ind.
