PREMIERE: Psychic Shakes – “Had To Stray”

Sometimes you just have to rip the band-aid off to get to where you’re going in life. That’s especially hard when it comes to saying goodbye to someone you’ve been close to, but for Brighton-based artist Psychic Shakes, it was not only an opportunity to grow but the inspiration for his latest single, “Had To Stray.”

The final single off of the Unsaid EP, “Had To Stray” follows in the narrative of charting one’s own path towards maturity and stability back through a learned lens. Psychic Shakes brilliantly funnels these themes all through a varied mix of jangly indie-rock to downtempo electronica, painting each song from its own unique sonic palette.

Psychic Shakes’ Max McLellan details; “‘Had To Stray is a song about a past relationship. It’s a goodbye essentially. I knew this person when I was much younger, and far more insecure, and emotionally unavailable. It’s an apology for my behaviour, but also an acknowledgment of my own faults and forgiveness of myself.”

Listen to Psychic Shakes’ “Had To Stray” and head here to check out the EP’s previous singles, “Suddenly” and “Wage Slave.” Unsaid is out September 25th via Good Eye Records.
