The 63rd Grammys Gets Rescheduled To March 14th

Only a few days into the 2021, and we are back into some covid news in the music world. The 63rd Grammys originally scheduled for January 31st, has now been pushed back to Sunday, March 14. A joint statement has been released by HARVEY MASON JR., Chair & Interim President/CEO of the Recording Academy; JACK SUSSMAN, Executive Vice President, Specials, Music, Live Events and Alternative Programming, CBS; and BEN WINSTON, GRAMMY Awards Executive Producer.

After thoughtful conversations with health experts, our host and artists scheduled to appear, we are rescheduling the 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards® to be broadcast Sunday, March 14, 2021. The deteriorating COVID situation in Los Angeles, with hospital services being overwhelmed, ICUs having reached capacity, and new guidance from state and local governments have all led us to conclude that postponing our show was the right thing to do. Nothing is more important than the health and safety of those in our music community and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly on producing the show. We want to thank all of the talented artists, the staff, our vendors and especially this year’s nominees for their understanding, patience and willingness to work with us as we navigate these unprecedented times.”

The news comes after a recent spike in coronavirus cases in the show’s planned location of Los Angeles. Even with the postponement of the Grammys, there is still plenty to be excited about coming to the Grammys, whenever it happens. For example, Megan Thee Stallion and Beyonce were rumored to be ‘in talks’ to perform their hit track, Savage Remix. Trevor Noah is hosting the Grammys and is very excited to do so. “In a year that most human beings would love to forget, there has been one constant force that has brought us together – Music,” Noah tweeted after the announcement. “I’m truly honored to be hosting The #GRAMMYs, a night celebrating all of our favorite artists who’ve helped keep us sane while we’re all stuck indoors!”

As we continue to go down this very unfamiliar path together, we need to know that things will get worse before they get better. Just because one of the many things we look forward to every year in the music industry is being pushed back, should not mean we cannot celebrate the nominations a little more before we see who wins.
