PREMIERE: Weezer Drops Single Off Upcoming Album, ‘All My Favorite Songs’

Another year for Weezer, and yet again another great track. The band has been making music since back to Los Angeles in 1992, making this the 19th year of them being together. Well known for their iconic tracks such as ‘Buddy Holly’, ‘Beverly Hills’, or maybe one such as ‘My Name Is Jonas’, a personal favorite of mine, and many others that I am missing. But as of this month, Weezer, has announced a new album called, Ok Human, on Jan. 29th. Today marks the first release off that said album with, ‘All My Favorite Songs’.

A slower song that talks about the sad slow songs that are our favorites. While talking of the things in the world that should make us joyful, happy, and upbeat, but do not and are leaving us feeling down. Throughout the video they released they show two teens traveling through the internet using computers and phones to see the world. The end of the video is a coming back to reality, with one of the teens seeing the other focused on her phone. He then jumps into a giant one on the floor to land in his room. It is a self check at that point. We as a society being focused on our social media, games, and just about anything on our screens. A sad reality that Weezer seems to be addressing with lyrics like, “I don’t know what is wrong with me’. I could be wrong on my reaction to the video, but it caused me to think about the fact that most of us are hanging out virtually and face to face. Something that I always expect with a Weezer song, something that makes you sit and think.

Here is some words about the upcoming album, and the process that went into this album, “During the summer of COVID-19 we grabbed our masks, hit the studio & began to chip away at what is now known as OK Human. An album that was made by a handful of humans using only analog technologies (including a 38 piece orchestra) for all of you humans to consume. OK Human was made at a time when humans-playing-instruments was a thing of the past. All we could do is look back on ancient times when humans really mattered and when the dark tech-takeover fantasy didn’t exist. We used our instruments to connect to the 1960’s and 1970’s and, with the orchestra, back to the 18th and 19th centuries. We had no click track or loops or hi-tech sounds. Not even an electric guitar.”
