Delacey Admits All We’re Afraid To Say

Multi-platinum songwriter Delacey returns with a new single after her 2020 debut album “Black Coffee”. Known for her songwriting accolades, the singer bears all in her second full-length project coming this year on Delicate Flower.

“Everything You Need To Know About Me Today” is more than a song. It’s a stunning short film. It’s a search for true purpose. It’s a glimpse into a reflection on life that can only truly be found within ourselves when we’re at our weakest moments.

Delacey captures the ebb and flow of the meaning of life with this new track. As she reflects on the pains of her past and looks forward to the possibilities of new glories in her future, we can each see a piece of ourselves in the stories that she tells and the images on the screen. This track embraces the epitome of raw emotion. Filmed in her parents Michigan hometown, the nearly 9-minute visual captures grief, loss, and the destruction of innocence in the singers life. Through it all, Delacey ends on an inspiring message of building a world of beauty around yourself, even while going through the often debilitating battle of healing.

In releasing this track while still living in our Covid reality, Delacey shares, “All the time standing still made me really look at my life. I felt like I had fallen out of love with music. I decided I wasn’t going to put out any music. I couldn’t bring myself to write. Not even for someone else. One very, very emotional detached day I had therapy, sat on my bed and stared at nothing for five hours. Then I talked to my grandpa on the phone for 45 minutes and cried. I felt sorry for myself. I picked up my guitar that I hadn’t touched in many months and sat in my bathtub fully clothed (like I did when I was a little girl) and sang (in so many words) this song. “Everything You Need To Know About Me Today” is not intended as a pop song. It’s 15 verses. I don’t know what it is but this song is healing in a very surreal way. I have been through a lot in my life and have been too scared to face some things that have happened when I was too young. I cried after writing it but I also felt so alive and free. In a way, I felt like I had been waiting my whole life to write and sing these words. I recorded this song under a blanket in my house with the very first guitar I ever owned and a glass of whiskey. I’m singing with my emotions in this moment, and also a little drunk, and recorded it for myself, not for anyone else. This song inspired me to write again and I can’t wait to share my second album with my beautiful fans who stuck with me.”

Even the flow of the song itself is a testament to the meaning behind it. With 15 very personal verses, it’s not the cotton candy bubble gum the pop world is accustomed to. It’s a true reflection of life. We don’t live in this verse-chorus sort of manner. We’re all just trying to figure life out and hoping to God that along the way we’ll find the ones who are meant to walk us home at the end of the day. Delacey says everything we’re all too afraid to admit in this memoir style piece of art.

Each artist has a song in their soul that is their heart song waiting to be sung. They are all in constant search of it. This is it for Delacey. Because of her brave display of doing something even while she was afraid and even while she was feeling lost and fragile, we all might just have a chance at finding our way home to our own truths.

Following the multi-platinum songwriters debut album “Black Coffee”, this song is her return and is just the beginning of her second full-length project arriving this year on Delicate Flower.
