Saskatchewan’s Peace Flag Ensemble Releases New Album

Peace Flag Ensemble is an experimental jazz collective from scattered points across Saskatchewan. Their illusory debut album, Noteland, is available now on We Are Busy Bodies.

Noteland is an exercise in pure collaboration, produced by ambient artist Michael Scott Dawson, who also contributes electronics, guitars, and field recordings to the collective. The result is a pastiche of improvisation and collage that cycles through quiet moments of imperfection and discomfort followed by peaceful resolutions.

The life and work of artist and mystic, Hilma af Klint, served as a mood board during the mixing of Noteland, leading to a juxtaposition between the uninhibited and limitless freedom of the compositions against a calm and soft colour palette.
