LIVE REVIEW: David Shaw

From the moment David Shaw stepped on the stage, the crowd was focused on what he did. David, the frontman for the band The Revivalists, earlier this year had released both his debut self-titled solo album and his cover of ‘Blue Christmas’ by Elvis Presley. Now Shaw is out on the road touring for the solo album, and playing a few by The Revivalists. We got to cover him at the A & R Music Bar located in Columbus, Ohio. David is original from Hamilton, Ohio, and you could tell the people from Hamilton came out, as half of A & R was screamed when Shaw asked if anyone was from Hamilton. It even was a family event for Shaw as he gave a shoutout to his father, who was present at the show along with other parts of his family.

Opening for David was a duo out of St. Petersburg, Florida in The Ries Brothers. The duo not only had a great setlist from their own music. The amazing fact, was not how great their music was, and believe me they played a great set, but the amount of instruments and things the duo were using was amazing. The fact that the lead singer was also drums, bass, and keyboards. Oh yeah and his borther on lead guitar, rocked out on a ukulele at one point, and had the talent to use a key melodica for a song. The duo really got the crowd hyped, and ready for David Shaw.

As Shaw came out, you could hear the crowd take their excitement to another level. Shaw releasing his self titled debut solo album earlier this year, we got to hear plenty of his new jams with ‘Got Me’ ‘Feeling Good,’ ‘Heavy Soul,’ ‘Shivers,’ ‘Shaken,’ and “Promised Land,” to name a few. One that really stood out was ‘Shaken,’ when you hear the chorus come up, “I’m still standing here, Shakin,” you could barely hear Shaw with everyone singing along as loud as they possible could. Shaw had the crowd rocking right along with him, and even had the crowd take over for most tracks. The crowd knew every song Shaw threw at em, and seemed to only grow in confidence as the night went on.

Overall, the whole experience from Shaw and Ries Brothers gave the crowd some things to shout about. The vibes in the air seemed to have everyone in a happy mood. Music in the air, great friends and people around, and a solid venue to watch some great performances. The night may have been cold in brisk outside, but inside A&R was nothing but great warm vibes and memories of how things were before covid.
