Dante Matas began playing piano at age 8 in his hometown of Toronto. Today, with an MA in Philosophy and a penchant for poetry and creative writing, Dante has combined his interests to create his own unique brand of indie-pop, folk, and experimental music. He is influenced by the likes of Radiohead, Tame Impala, Sufjan Stevens, Paul Simon, The Beatles, and Leonard Cohen among many others. We are thrilled to premiere his fantastic new album A Colourful Headache today on GroundSounds!

A Colourful Headache is such an enjoyable listen. After pressing play, those influences listed above become immediately apparent. The album dances between the worlds of indie-pop and folk, with beautiful vocals and big time hooks. With this release, Dante needs to be firmly planted on your radar.

In his own words:

I made a Colourful Headache over about an 8-month period last year. It was quite a departure from my last record, being something more like psych/synth pop instead of folk. The songs were a strange mix of super old material that I was revisiting and material that I was writing as I was recording. For some reason these songs from different points in my life seemed to fit together. I tried not to question or analyze what I was doing too much so that I wouldn’t lose whatever was working. Naturally, after questioning and analyzing it to the brink of insanity, the record was somehow finished and I’m very proud of it.
