James Adkins Presents New Style Country with ‘Brokedown Free Man Blues’

By SHARON JENNINGS

James Adkins gives roots-country music a new sound on his new album Brokedown Free Man Blues.

Adkins is an award-winning musician and it’s no surprise: His voice and his message resonate as in so many words he tells people to have hope and carry on through the gloomy times.

In the wake of so many people feeling isolated today, it’s a strong message.

Adkins has a lot to crow about. He is the 2013 South Alabama Flat Picking Champion, he toured with Big Virginia Sky, as part of Katie Rogers’ band he opened for The Band Perry, he opened for Taylor Hicks and he’s endorsed by Bedell/Breedlove Guitar.

His songs move between straight country and modern roots.  But the sentiments are the same as they always were. There are promises of forever love, there are songs of hope and upbeat ballads that create good times.

Adkins calls Findlay, Ohio, home, but his songs appeal to those in any corner of the nation and abroad. What’s interesting is Adkins takes other genres of music, like samba, jazz and rock and mixes it all into this release. He’s the real deal no matter they style.
