Psych rockers Aqua Seca (Trent Hankinson, Derek Stewart, Jacob Horne) have known each other since they were freshmen in high school and have always enjoyed jamming out together in their spare time. At the time that Trent began writing the songs for their upcoming LP, focusing on music was the last thing he should have been doing. He was a full-time student in college with an overloaded class schedule and an internship, with his songs just voice memos he had on his phone. When Trent decided to stop holding himself back from his dream, he reached out to Derek and Jacob to be permanent fixtures of Aqua Seca. Like Trent, Derek and Jacob had other commitments such as a full-time apprenticeship and school. However, the pull towards their music was something any of them could ignore and now the songs are more than just melodies in Trent’s head and memos on his phone.
Today we’re excited to premiere the video for “Slowdrive” – streaming below! The video is the perfect match for the song: both draw you in immediately, both take their time, and at the end, you’ll most certainly want to replay both.
In their own words:
“The whole idea for the video went from a thought in my head to actually being filmed in less than two weeks. We were under the gun since my video guy and I were leaving for Utah the following week to film the next music video for “Don’t Care.” For “Slowdrive,” we had to make sure we were there for the Red Moon. I think we also shot it on the summer solstice, which did buy us some much needed time in terms of the sun taking a long, long time to set.” – Trent Hankinson
