Mouth Breather is the moniker of 23 yr-old Toronto based eclectic/alt-pop artist Owen Hooper. He’s on the internet all the time and totally up to date with culture i.e. which Soundcloud rapper just got a face tattoo. He also suffers from a sense of alienation and anxiety about what life is like, given how much of the world is taking place online. As a result, his songs are all believable and they tell stories, although they’re not at all what you would expect from regular “pop” music. There’s something sort of “uncanny valley” about his music, because Mouth Breather isn’t really sure what is real and what is fabricated reality.

Today we are excited to premiere his new video for “These Thoughts (Inside My Head)” – streaming below! The song is from his forthcoming sophomore album, Under the Surface, releasing via Roshambo Recordings next month on February 21st, 2020. The video is a trippy, visualizer style that will intrigue and hypnotize you just as well as the song does. It’s true, this isn’t what you expect from regular “pop” music, and we couldn’t be happier about that. The song is a welcome breath of fresh air and a sign of great things to come on the new album.

In his own words:

“‘These Thoughts (Inside My Head)’ is about two people that decide to hookup after a party but they get high before they leave and things go a little south. To tie in with the theme, I made a music video that kind of demonstrates what I feel like when I’m too high.”
