Broccoli City Festival 2014

Recently, the GroundSounds team had the pleasure of covering the LA version of DC’s well known Broccoli City Festival. A one-day music, art, and green living festival, Broccoli City brought out a diverse sect of artists, fans, musicians, and great exhibitors. There was everything from vinyl record painting to yoga and dance classes.

Held at Maker City LA, the main stage out in the parking lot brought some really great acts. One of our favorite acts was Tiron & Ayomari, a fresh, lyrically talented Hip-hop duo with a full band backing them. They traded lines and verses on a few tracks and even had a cool jazz interlude of Herbie Hancock’s “Butterfly.” Another really interesting performance came courtesy of JMSN, part the new PBR&B generation of eclectic blue-eyed soul.

The highlight of our night had to be BJ The Chicago Kid. Coming off a really big feature on ScHoolboy Q’s new album, BJ was one of the more highly anticipated acts to hit the stage. Being from Chicago, he naturally covered some R. Kelly and even some Isley Brothers tune. BJ of course segued into “Studio,” his hit track with TDE’s ScHoolboy Q. BJ certainly hit the soft spot of all the lovers in the audience that evening.

Broccoli City was a really unique festival and featured an awesome lineup. We can’t wait to be at next year’s show!
