Portland, Oregon-based Rocket 3’s self-released 2014 debut album, Burn, reached #76 on the CMJ top 200, earning the band critical acclaim and comparisons to Belly, La Sera, Blake Babies, and the Breeders. Their upcoming follow-up release What’s the Frequency? grows out of the band’s pop-punk roots with disarming vocals and clean, warm guitar tones. Today we are excited to premiere the new song “Hip Shot” – streaming below! The track is a smile-inducing indie gem, complete with soothing saxophone and an addicting hook.

In their own words:

“‘Hip Shot’ is a tune that I can’t stop humming. It came out of a band practice where Ken threw out the words “hip shot it’s what I got”. A few weeks later I wrote the rest of the lyrics and music. Ken says it has two distinct personalities- a pop punk chorus and verses that are more like Blondie’s rap in Rapture. I love Gavin’s saxophone playing on this track!”
